Hey there! So, ever played a game where you’re a fly? No? Well, neither had I until I got involved with “Time Flies.” I’m Michael Frei, and this quirky game’s hitting PlayStation 5 on July 31st. Wild, right? I remember it first popped up on some PlayStation blog a while ago, and now—finally—it’s about to buzz onto your console.
So, get this. Before you even start buzzing around, the game checks where you’re playing from. I know, bizarre! But there’s a reason.
Funny story. If you’re chilling in Switzerland, apparently you’re expected to live 83.3 years—World Health Organization stats, not mine. But here’s where it gets fun: those years? They become seconds for your little fly life in the game. So in the States, you’re buzzin’ around for 76.4 seconds. Yep, just ticking off your fly bucket list before the inevitable. Life’s a bit tougher here with less time. Or is it? I’m not great with time management, so let’s roll with it.
And about that bucket list… what’s even on there? Honestly, at first glance, I felt lost too. But, it’s all about trying, failing, and trying again. You have this list, and you tackle these tasks in your fly-life span. The giggles you’ll have failing—trust me, it’s a game about life. Or just short lifetimes? Anyway, we managed to brainstorm all sorts of fly-possible tasks. Personal fave? “Find God.” Sounds intense, right? But shh, no spoilers! Go figure that one out yourself.
Now, picture this: playing a game… as a fly… and trying to Find God while still in that game. Meta, right? We toyed with this idea of escaping hell as a platform game. Spoiler: it had issues.
Here’s the snag. As a fly, you’re doing all actions with a flight stick. Like, literally bouncing off stuff, landing, wandering—no controller button mashing. Your gameplay? It’s just landing on buttons, triggering stuff by crawling over them. And somehow, this made us rethink everything. Wasn’t that half the fun though?
So, we kept it simple. Three virtual inputs: moving left-right, and a trigger to start. Find God? Look both ways, maybe go left instead of right. Simple, yet… profound? Maybe there’s something else waiting in there. A game, within a fly game, within yet another twist. Makes sense in that zigzag fly way.
Really, I can’t wait for you to dive (or fly) into “Time Flies” on your PS5. See ya on July 31st! Buzz on! 🖤
