Wow, so here we are again, diving into the wild world of video game sales. You know, the PS Store is like a treasure hunt—it’s got gems and, um, a few not-so-shiny rocks. Anyway, right now there’s a big sale, slashing prices up to 75% on games. Like, who even decides these percentages?
Okay, so here’s one that caught my eye. BioWare’s Anthem. It’s being tossed out there for a crazy 75% off. Originally priced at $19.99, but now it’s $4.99—in what world does that even make any sense? If you’re thinking of grabbing it, don’t snooze. This deal vanishes on May 22 at some ungodly hour, 2:59 a.m. ET. Who sits up waiting for that? I’d be drooling on my pillow by then.
“Team with up to three other players in cooperative adventures,” it says. Apparently, your choice of javelin exosuit is a big deal. But hey, who am I to judge? I once fought off a band of digital goblins in pajamas. Also, there’s this “gripping story” bit, plus that seamless matchmaking. Sure, why not. I might need another cup of coffee to figure out what they’re pitching here.
Now, rewind to its launch in 2019. Anthem got hit with a cyclone of mixed reviews. On Metacritic, it earned this middling 59 from like a boatload of reviewers. We even slapped a 7 out of 10 on it ourselves. “Runaway success” might be pushing it, but our review had hopes. It bounced between “meh” and “hey, not bad,” if that makes sense. Still, something about it felt—not quite what BioWare usually goes for. Like a pizza missing cheese.
Despite the critical shoulder shrug, Anthem wasn’t totally off the radar. Nominations flew its way before it even saw daylight. Golden Joystick nod, Gamers’ Choice nod, the whole shebang. It pocketed some awards too—Best PC Game and Best Action Game—the kind of attention that makes you squint and think, “Did they know how it’d pan out?”
Anyway, tangent over. Anthem’s out there for a steal, for now. Is it worth the gamble? Your pick. But me? I keep finding myself drawn to bizarrely offbeat games instead. Go figure.
