So, when you jump into Persona 5: The Phantom X, one of the first tasks, believe it or not, is scribbling your name on what I can only describe as an in-game worksheet. Classic, right? If you’ve tangoed with Persona games before, you probably get the whole protagonist naming gig. Maybe you’re thinking, “Oh, I want to stick with what the creators call this dude.”
And here’s the scoop: the “official” name should be sitting pretty there if you didn’t accidentally wipe it clean or something. If you’re scratching your head about it, don’t worry. I’ll spill the beans on the protagonist’s name below.
### What’s this dude’s name anyway in Persona 5: The Phantom X?
Over in the land of cherry blossoms, he’s Nagisa Kamishiro. But here’s the kicker—English version? Bam! He’s Nagisa Kamisiro. Missing “h.” Not sure why they did that. Maybe it didn’t fit the slot? Who knows.
Of course, you’re totally free to go wild with the names. Seriously. Call him Zoo Smell if that tickles your fancy. Full disclosure: during the beta, I saw folks change just the first name. No clue why. Anyway—
Weird thing about this game, your character’s name doubles as your account name since you can add pals. So, maybe not Nagisa 101 or something unless blending in’s your jam. If you’re rolling out the friend requests, snag a name they’ll actually remember, you know?
This whole “canon” thing is a moving target. Persona characters sport different names, depending on where you see them. Like, in Persona 4, he was Souji in the manga but Yu in the anime. Meanwhile, Persona 5’s main guy Akira Kurusu—or umm, Ren Amamiya in the games. Although, for me? Akira all the way.
Nagisa might pop up elsewhere with a random new name, but I’m just rolling with the default from the beta.
### Can you switch up your name in Persona 5: The Phantom X?
Absolutely! If you picked Nagisa—or Zoo Smell, cause why not—you get one free name do-over. After that, it’s gonna cost you 200 Meta Jewels each time. Those are the shiny in-game coins you collect while playing.
To switch names, hit your profile icon up top once you’re a bit into the story. There’s this ellipses menu above your icon—you can change your name from there. Cool, right?
