Hey, so there’s this game coming out soon — Directive 8020. Yeah, it’s by Supermassive Games. You know, those folks who made UNTIL DAWN and THE QUARRY? Yeah, them. It’s hitting PlayStation 5 on October 2, if my calendar’s honest, which… it usually is, but who can really tell these days?
Okay, pause for a sec. I’m staring at this YouTube thumbnail (it’s a whole thing where you have to put your birth date in — like, why though?), and I caught myself thinking, “Huh, that’s here to stay.”
Anyway, back on track — sort of. This game’s mostly about cosmic horror. Earth’s a goner (shocker), and humanity’s got this last shot on a planet called Tau Ceti f. Why they picked that place? Beats me, but something about it being 12 light years away sounds epic, doesn’t it? Anyway, things go south, fast. Their ship, Cassiopeia — love that name, by the way — crashes, and they realize they’re not alone. And not in the warm-and-fuzzy way. They’re being hunted by aliens. So, I’ll just say: yikes.
These aliens? They’re super sneaky, mimicking humans and all that. Kind of makes you wonder if your best pal is really your best pal, or you’re just talking to an alien in disguise. Awkward.
Oh, fun fact! Lashana Lynch, you might’ve seen her in some big movies, is playing a big-time astronaut called ‘Young’. Imagine if Bob Marley and The Woman King were the same universe — well, that’s a tangent. But still, she’s in it!
And there’s this constant tension of, like, who on the team’s actually still human. Spooky, right? The aliens are sneaky, literally hiding right in front of you. Choices, choices. The stakes are high because it’s either you or Earth at risk. No pressure.
So yeah, you’re sneaking through shadowy spaceship corridors, like some intergalactic game of hide and seek, but the stakes are… life-endingly high. Improvised weapons made from who-knows-what. Reflexes quicker than a squirrel on espresso. Trust issues galore.
In space, death, it seems, can come in… well, let’s just say many forms. I mean, who comes up with this stuff? Anyway, that’s the feel of Directive 8020 for you. Try not to freak out when you play it — I failed, big time. But what’s new?
