Oh man, launching into Sea of Remnants was like sailing into chaos, but in the most entertaining way you can imagine. Seriously, I dived into it with this sense of adventure, and yeah, got lost a lot. The thing is, it’s such an early build, it felt like playing a game that was more duct tape than code, you know? Crashes were as frequent as seagulls at the beach, and the placeholder text? Made me laugh more than it should have, I guess. No English voice acting too, by the way, so I was guessing my way through this labyrinth of pirates and whatnot. But hey, gotta love the sheer audacity of it.
And these characters? Total cartoons, exaggerated in all the right ways, kind of like if Persona 5 and a pirate-themed SNL skit had a baby. Sometimes I didn’t understand what was going on at all, but it had me smiling like an idiot. There’s loads of time till 2026, which I guess means they’ll iron out the wrinkles – or at least, that’s the hope. Still, feels like a game to keep an eye on, you know what I mean?
Trying to wrap my head around those turn-based combats, though, was a trip. Imagine mixing an open sea pirate adventure with, um, some RPG/MMO stuff mashed in there. Not sure what they’re aiming for, maybe even they don’t know. But the surprises – hundreds of recruitable companions on voyages with their own little quirks – kept hitting me like waves, some good, some just confusing.
Anyway, the unfinished bits? Yeah, buggy’s an understatement. Like, I crossed swords with rival skallywags – is that even a word? But the moves were simply too simple. Maybe they’ll work on it, maybe they won’t. Guess we’ll see. Right now, it reminds me of a stripped-down Persona. Whatever that means.
The good part? Every bit was just wild. These puppet-like characters (don’t ask me why, I don’t have a clue) had real personality despite their wooden expressions. One moment I’m sailing peacefully, the next a giant ape, who somehow captained his own ship, is raining cannon fire. Bonkers, right?
Oh, and this wacky concept of finding the moon under the sea – not kidding – while these marionette characters forget their memories if they’re blown apart, only to respawn like nothing happened. And graffiti everywhere! It’s like punk meets pirates, meets, well, a completely unplanned mess. But maybe that’s the charm?
Honestly, the jury’s still out on whether Sea of Remnants will be smooth sailing or just plain confusing in its final run. But the style? The creativity? Totally off the charts. Envisioning how they’ll handle multiplayer and integrating that with turn-based combat – haven’t the foggiest idea. But if they pull it off? Could be epic. If they don’t – at least it’ll be an amusing kind of unique.
