A week to go until the Nintendo Switch 2 lands. Can you believe it? But Nintendo’s, well, playing coy—just tossing us bits and pieces about what’s gonna make this Switch stand out from big brother OG. So, I’m scrolling through the Nintendo Today app like a zombie on a Tuesday, and there it is: Some bells and whistles for the Switch Online, especially for those dusty N64 games. (Who else misses those clunky graphics?)
First off, rewind. Yep, rewind your game. Miss that jump by a mile, or maybe yeet yourself right off Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 64? Yeah, my Achilles’ heel too—those “blooper reel” moments are fixable now.
And then they’ve got something called a CRT filter. It’s like putting old-school scan lines over your screen. What’s the deal? It makes Ocarina of Time look like it’s 1998 all over again—like in a charmingly terrible way.
These sweet treats are all for the shiny new Switch 2. But wait—OG Switch isn’t totally left out. Both systems will let you shuffle around controls for N64 games. Joy-Cons and even the quirky ol’ N64 controller get in on this action.
And, I mean, maybe you find this news life-changing. Or maybe not? Depends on your nostalgia threshold, I suppose. But hey, it’s happening.
