So, I wandered into PAX East 2025, and man, it was like tripping over game booths everywhere. Platformers galore. You couldn’t throw a controller without hitting one. Seriously, what’s a dev gotta do to pop out like Shovel Knight or Celeste these days? Be unique, I guess. Enter Love Eternal. This one clung to my brain at the event, for better or worse.
So, picture this: a game by siblings — how nice, right? Maybe they fought over the last slice of pizza but made something cool out of it. Anyway, these two moved from Oregon to the smoggy, fiery hellscape of LA. (Why? I dunno, but whatever floats your proverbial boat.) There’s some wildfires and anime vibes, especially from Perfect Blue, shoved into this game’s psyche. Weird combo, yet intriguing.
You start as Maya. She’s chilling with family at home, then, bam! A creepy phone call and boom, family vanishes. Just like that. Now she’s wandering around this surreal, fragmented world—a bit trippy if you ask me. Everything’s all ancient and odd. Imagine an ancient artifact paired with a toaster.
Maya’s world is her playground—you flip gravity like it’s nobody’s business. Walking on ceilings? Sure, why not. But, hey, you can’t just float around. Gotta land to flip again. Like, no free floaty passes here. Red stones spice it up — let you double flip before touching down. It’s like an awkward dance but addictive. Plus, it’s comforting knowing there’s save points sprinkled around (thank you, devs).
You gotta wiggle your way through these diabolical puzzles while chasing a storyline that seems built to twist your psyche. There’s talk of castles and lonely gods—sounds like a wild bedtime story, doesn’t it? I’m kinda expecting this 4-hour trip to mess with my mind. It’s launching on nearly everything: Xbox, Switch, PS4/5, and PC. Lock and load, gamers. This is gonna be a ride.
