PAX East 2025. So, I’m wandering around and bam — there it is: Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster. Truth be told, I never touched the original on the 3DS. Yeah, what was I thinking? Friends kept hyping it up like it was some Final Fantasy level genius. But now, here I am with Square Enix throwing a surprise demo at me. Fresh eyes, fresh chaos, right?
First off, ditch those dual screens from the old days. I mean, they swapped it for sweet high-def graphics and a shiny new UI. I chatted up some Square Enix rep, pondering if they’d give the same makeover to Bravely Second: End Layer. Her lips were sealed, but her eyes twinkled. Maybe, just maybe, my suggestion sparked something.
Now, the demo was a beast of its own. Timed trials are never my friend in RPGs — dialogue went whoosh past me, like a leaf in a storm. But hey, I got a feel for the combat. Man, the battle system? Unique, chaotic finesse. Brave or Default? Brave’s like going all out — four attacks, bam, but then you’re left wide open. Default? More like, “Let’s play it cool,” defending and saving turns for a rainy day. Guess what I did? All Brave, zero Default. Yeah, a bit reckless, but it’s a demo, live a little! The real game? A bit more thought required, I suppose.
And the job system? Didn’t dive into it. Demo time ran out — story of my life. But from what I glimpsed, it’s loaded with potential. Major regret not jumping on this back on the 3DS, but hey, this remaster is my redemption arc. Drops June 5 on the new Nintendo Switch 2. Mark it, folks. Or don’t. See if I care.
