Well, here we go. So, there’s this Steam Deck thing, right? Ever since it hit the shelves, people have been just going wild with mods. I mean, seriously, every other day you see something new pop up. There’s this one mod – oh wait, a bunch of them actually like the “Steam Brick” thing and one where someone souped it up to 32GB RAM. Nuts, right?
But then, there’s this guy, Michaelthatsit, who kind of blew everyone’s mind on Reddit. He took it a notch or ten higher. So, he sort of ripped the guts out of a Steam Deck and crammed it inside what he calls the “Bento.” Basically, it’s this nifty all-in-one keyboard computer thing. Like, imagine turning the Steam Deck into a compact desktop you can basically drag around with an inbuilt keyboard. Wild stuff!
Picture this: Michael’s gizmo is hooked up to snazzy Type-C display glasses instead of your regular monitor. Why? I guess cause he can. He literally took the Steam Deck’s motherboard and all its little techy bits, plucked them out, and popped them into a 3D-printed shell that neatly tucks under an Apple Magic keyboard. Sounds simple, but also… how?
Apparently, the setup has two snug chambers. One side’s like a tech playground where all the cool Deck hardware hangs out, complete with vents for the fan to breathe. The other side? Pretty much a bonus pocket – one of those “what can I stuff in here” kind of things. Reddit shots show him using it for a USB hub. Practical, I suppose.
Now, is it perfect? Not really. Michael had to print the case in two pieces because, yeah, tiny printer woes. Also, it’s missing mouse controls for now. He’s thinking of a version 2.0 where everything’s all together, maybe with some mouse bits included. The guy’s ambitious, I’ll give him that.
Michael’s Bento, it’s like this love letter to creative tinkering. If you’re a SteamOS fangirl or boy, and you get a kick out of squeezing all desktop potential into something you can haul around, this could be your thing. As he goes tweaking, who knows what’s next? I can’t even predict something this unpredictable.
Anyway, hit up Tom’s Hardware if you want more updates and reviews. They’re, like, all over this kind of quirky tech stuff.
