At long last, after what seems like forever (seriously, folks were getting antsy), Gearbox Software finally spilled the beans on a hotly anticipated feature in Borderlands 4. Now, don’t get too excited — it’s not arriving with the big debut on September 12. Yup, fans are gonna have to drum their fingers just a little longer.
So, what’s this thing everyone’s buzzing about? Photo Mode. Imagine snapping those eye-popping in-game moments like a pro photographer. Think cinema-style shots with all the bells and whistles—color tweaks, depth fiddling, maybe a bit of artsy letterboxing. Nowadays, gamers expect this like it’s the cherry on top of a sundae. So yeah, not having it right away? Kind of a bummer.
Creative director Graeme Timmins hopped on social media Tuesday morning, teasing us with news that yes, Photo Mode is on its way. Just not right out of the gate. “Hey guys, wanted to confirm…” blah blah blah, you know how these things go. In short: patience is required.
Why the delay? Timmins says Gearbox is knee-deep, polishing up other stuff that’s more crucial to the game’s core vibes. Which, okay, makes sense if you think about it. Kind of. They want to nail that quality of life stuff first — what players will be doing every second they’re immersed in the game.
A bit of background for those playing catch-up: Borderlands 3 graced our screens with Photo Mode on PC right at launch, but console players had to wait a bit longer. The 2022 spinoff, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, did a smash-and-grab, giving everyone the goods at once.
Anyway, it got me itching with excitement that maybe — just maybe — they’d roll this out for all platforms simultaneously this time around. Especially since Borderlands 4 is flexing some serious muscle with Unreal Engine 5. Imagine the visuals! It’s the most stunning game in the series yet, by a landslide.
Despite the wait, I get it. Gearbox has a valid point. Nail the big stuff first so the game blows our socks off right away. Trust me, Photo Mode will weave its magic soon enough.
So what’s Borderlands 4 about? Well, it could be one of 2025’s blockbuster hits — for Xbox and PC, for sure. You get four fresh Vault Hunters traipsing around Kairos, a chaotic planet under tyrant rule by The Timekeeper. Lots to unpack there.
Mark your calendars: September 12, 2025, is D-Day. Whether you’re on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, or the Switch 2, gear up for a wild ride. Prices? Starting at $69.99, with deluxe versions for those ready to splurge even more. Save those pennies!
