Star Wars has long stood as a cultural powerhouse with an unwavering grip on the modern imagination. This iconic franchise started its journey on the silver screen, but as video games have surged into the mainstream, Star Wars has become a prominent setting for a myriad of gaming experiences. This trend shows no signs of fading.
Over the years, Star Wars games have faced their fair share of ups and downs with some, like Star Wars: 1313 and a Star Wars FPS project from Respawn, being canceled. Yet, the releases keep coming. The 2020s delivered standout titles like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Star Wars Outlaws, thanks to Disney’s expansive licensing strategy. As a result, the Star Wars gaming universe has blossomed, offering diverse narratives and gameplay experiences crafted by various studios.
In the realm of new Star Wars games, several are currently in development, each promising to bring something unique to the table.

After the immediate success of the first Star Wars Jedi game, followed by the praise for Jedi: Survivor, Respawn Entertainment is set to continue this action-adventure saga. A third installment is already in the works, though details are sparse. We can expect a bit of a wait for more info, especially with the departure of lead developer Stig Asmussen soon after Jedi: Survivor’s 2023 release.
Moving on to Star Wars Eclipse, this project emerges from Quantic Dream, the developers behind Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human. Eclipse will transport players to the High Republic Era, offering a story-rich, choice-driven experience akin to Quantic Dream’s previous titles. Although initially announced in 2021, the game’s development has been marred by rumors of delays, not helped by reported studio controversies.
Likewise, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake holds an uncertain status. Initially revealed during a 2021 PlayStation showcase, and subsequently postponed, the game changed hands from Aspyr to Saber Interactive amid corporate restructuring. Despite this confusion, Saber insists the project is still alive, although specifics remain scarce.
Two more elusive projects are emerging from Bit Reactor and Skydance New Media. Bit Reactor, teaming up with Respawn, is concocting a Star Wars tactics/strategy game. Details have been minimal, but more could be unveiled at an upcoming Star Wars Celebration. Meanwhile, Amy Hennig takes the helm at Skydance for another action-adventure title, which hints at a compelling narrative adventure that echoes her earlier acclaimed work.
With Star Wars deeply embedded in multimedia, from movies to comics, its gaming footprint continues to expand, offering fans a galaxy of interactive backgrounds to explore, each brimming with rich stories and engaging gameplay. As development on these titles progresses, Star Wars’ legacy in the gaming world seems only set to grow.
