Hey, so here’s a wild bit about Huawei. They’re, like, building this humongous chip-making thing in China. I mean, what even is a “mega-facility,” right? Anyway, it’s for their Kirin and Ascend chips – those things everyone seems to want these days.
Okay, listen. Huawei used to be all about phones, but now they’re eyeing up NVIDIA in the AI arena. No joke. The Ascend AI chips are rocking it so much that Huawei’s scrambling to make enough. But, plot twist! The Financial Times says they’ve got this giant chip center in Shenzhen coming up. They’re trying to vertically align the AI chain. Whatever that means.
So, this new spot is probably all about their 7nm chip production – think Kirin for phones and Ascend for AI stuff. And get this: it’s near other big guys like Pengxinwei and Shenzhen Pensun, who are apparently in Huawei’s circle. They’re creating, like, a foundry hub? Makes the whole sourcing thing snappier, I suppose.
Funny bit: the local government’s throwing cash at it, but Huawei’s not directly running the show. Instead, firms like SiCarrier and SwaySure are taking the reins. Huawei’s gonna fund and manage bits though, tying all their partners into one chaotic but possibly genius ecosystem.
Why? Well, SMIC, China’s big chip honcho, kinda dropped the ball on demand. Huawei’s seeing millions of Ascend orders, and SMIC can’t keep up. So, now Huawei’s in a rush to expand production. This Shenzhen beast might start moving next year, aaaaand boom! Huawei’s one step closer to nailing down chip supremacy, or whatever they’re calling it.
