Yuji Horii. Man, that guy just spills the beans, doesn’t he? It’s like he can’t help himself. But maybe that’s why we love him?
Okay, so picture this: A comic convention in Napoli, Italy. The vibe’s all electric, and Yuji Horii, the dude behind Dragon Quest, is on stage. People are pumped. Suddenly, he kinda blurts something out about a remake of Chrono Trigger for its 30th anniversary. Was it planned? Heck, who even knows. The panel host tried to get him to spill more, but Horii just covers his mouth like, “Oops, didn’t mean to say that!” And then, unexpectedly, the translator goes, “You heard nothing.” Cue wild applause.
Honestly, this isn’t the first time Horii’s let something slip. Remember back in 2015? He just casually confirmed those Dragon Quest 3DS localizations. I mean, Dragon Quest VII had been out in Japan for over two years, but still, you’d think someone would’ve said, “Hey, maybe keep it under wraps.” But that’s Horii for you. Oh, and let’s not forget how he dropped that Dragon Quest XI would be on the “NX” — or the Switch, as we know it now. That was kinda hush-hush, meant for PS4 and 3DS.
Oh, right, speaking of anniversaries — March 11 marked 30 years since Chrono Trigger hit Japan, and Square Enix teased more celebrations to come. But, they’re playing it cool, no big reveals yet.
Anyway, Horii, man. Gotta love the guy’s knack for accidental announcements.
